Hiking or Sightseeing

Assault your senses while exploring our rugged, breath taking coastline along the Wild Atlantic Way. Slieve League Cliffs are the highest marine cliffs in Europe. Only a short distance away from the hotel, this trip is a must for scenery junkies. The famous “One Man Path” is one of the most remarkable walks in Ireland.

Put it on your list of things to do!

Robert Lloyd Praeger in one of his publications suggests that Donegal is the best county in Ireland to walk in because it captures such diverse terrain: hill, dale, lake, rock, bog, sea & pasture. Walking groups descend on Ardara on a regular basis to explore this amazing place.

Each year in Ardara we celebrate our Walking Festival in March which offers a full programme of walks from moderate to strenuous taking in cultural and historical interests. We have our very own Ardara Town Trail which starts at the Nesbitt Arms Hotel.

If walking is for you and your family, Ardara is the spot!

It’s a golfers paradise here with Narin and Portnoo Golf Club a mere 10 minutes’ drive form the hotel. Considered by many to be one of the finest natural and scenic 18 hole links courses in Ireland with breath taking views over Gweebarra Bay. It is situated in the amazing seaside resort of Narin with its beautiful beach.

Contact us at the Nesbitt Arms Hotel and we can organise your “stay and play and eat”.

You just arrive and we will organise the rest – as easy as that!

Cyclists come in their droves to Ardara, having peddled up through the roads of Donegal, a much welcomed stop awaits them (and a cool beer!) With many meandering roads and treks in the whole area, cyclists can savour the panoramic views that abound us.

At the Nesbitt Arms, we can offer our cyclists a secure lockup facility for their bikes. In the unlikely event of inclement weather….. we can offer you a drying service to dry off your clothes overnight to get you on your way for the next day’s exploring. If you are not arriving by bike, we can arrange bikes for you at the nearby Bike Shop which offer keen half/full day rentals.

Nothing is impossible at the Nesbitt Arms!

Waves splashing, white sands, sea air, panoramic views, sea spray in your face, and this is what awaits you when riding across one of our many beaches along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Here at the Nesbitt Arms, we can organise your horse riding with just a phone call in advance. There are two equestrian centres in the area, who can take you on a trek, give your little ones lessons, pony rides, cross country courses and of course beach rides.

A great treat for the adventurous type or our horsey friends and when you are finished, we can have a cool beer, cuppa and hot chocolate for the little ones waiting on your return to the hotel.

Fishing and Angling

Only a short walk from the Nesbitt Arms, the Owenea River offers our keen anglers a great place to spend few hours. The Owenea River Fishery is a wonderful salmon river which consists of nine beats. The river has a lot of nice fly water with the majority of fish being caught this way.

The Owenea is one of the best rivers in the country for grilses (seasonal). There are toilet facilities as well as access for disabled anglers. Permits and licenses can be arranged at the Owenea Angling Centre or why not let us organise it for you at the hotel.

We are always here to serve our guests.

Sea Angling and Boat Trips

If you and your guests would like to go sea angling, there are several specialists who can take you for the day. These offer a bespoke service for small or big parties. Whether you are a beginner or experienced sea angler, all are very welcome. Both full and half day rates are available to suit your needs and budget. Rod and tackle hire can be organised also.

Just ask our reception team for some details as we can guide you in the right direction or even book it for.

Pitch and Putt

Want to give your little ones an outdoor treat, Sandfield Pitch & Putt is only 5 minutes from the Nesbitt Arms. Here you and your family can pass a few hours challenging each other over their 18 hole course. Sandfield is open daily from April to September. All equipment can be hired there.

Another good outdoor activity to get the children off their technology and fill them with the unpolluted air of SW Donegal. Learn to Surf! Bundoran Surf Company runs lessons for all ages. Surf lessons are available from July on Tramore Beach just 15 minutes from the Nesbitt Arms. All equipment is included.

Ask us at the hotel for more details.
